The Walking Dead of Hazzard County
Instead of editing the three commercials and my feature film, I worked on this yesterday. Thought of it months ago, figured I'd throw it together. I find it amusing.

Slow Motion Zombie Hit
Thanks to Richard Gaither I actually got one of the shots I've always wanted to get for Monster Cops. The classic Zombie crawling out of a grave. We've done it a couple of times, but the above clip was the exact shot I was looking for. The right angle of seeing that creature claw out of the soil, then one of the Monster Cops firing a bullet into it's head. It's great when you can finally put together a shot you've had in your head for so long.
We shot this in Richard's backyard. He had put a long piece of plywood on top of two chairs. Cut a hole in the center. Draped some kind of fabric over the hole, then placed soil and shrubbery all over the wood. At the right angle we had a shot of the ground. Have a zombie claw it's way from underneath through the soil covered fabric, and you've got it. We put Brandon on a stool, aiming his prop gun. Richard rigged a tube through the forehead of the zombie mask. He squirted fake blood through the tube as I cued our zombie (Darin Chamberlin) to react and fall over.
In post, using Sony Vegas, I color corrected everything, and utilized brightness and contrast to make the footage pop look wise. On the final angle where the Zombie gets shot, I faked Depth Of Field utilizing a cookie cutter and gausian blur. I also added a bit of a glow, and then rendered everything into 24p HD to give it somewhat of a film look.
This was really fun to put together and I can't wait to utilize some of these tricks for other projects.
Hoping to have two more episodes up before Halloween and few more webisodes. Would love to have enough to put on a DVD and distribute just in time for Christmas. We'll give it our best shot. Might be a great way to help raise some money for Bobby's Closet.

Zombie Night, Again.
You can never have too many zombies.
Gearing up for the shoot tonight over at Northwoods Stable. Going to shoot zombies, literally. Working on the current 23 minute episode MONSTER COPS: ZOMBIES and I realize we just don't have enough zombies heads being popped with bullets. So tonight is going to be all about the blood squibs.
Gotta pack up the gear, load up all the props, pick some munchies and drinks, and then head out the the stables, where hopefully we'll have some decent zombie carnage. And then hopefully get it all done in less than 3 hours, because I still have a ton of other stuff to do tonight as well.
Thank God for clear weather Saturdays. Let's hope we have more of em.
More later.

Dead By Dawn: Zombies Take 1
Back at Northwood Stables for more zombie work. This time around we had a great turn out. Had a ton of zombies and all of them were great to work with. Allow me to share some photos.
These were taken by the amazing and very talented Julie Keels.
And thanks to everyone for voting on projectbreakout. It was a close one, but unfortunately not in the cards. It's all good though, winning contests, although a nice bonus for Monster Cops, is not part of the overall plan. But it's nice to know there is much support for MC. Thanks everyone.

Seriously, thank you to everyone who came out and helped. To all the zombies, to Megan for getting all the signatures, to Brian and Deanna for applying the make up, to Arlanda who although couldn't make it provided the make up, of course to Kelly Emerson and Fam for letting us take over their place yet again, To everyone else for falling down on the grass over and over again mainly because I'm a sadistic bastard and I like to watch you all get injured. I had a great time, I hope you did too. I hope there was plenty of drinks, pizza, and cookies (which disappeared in the first hour.) Of course thanks a bunch to Julie Keels, last time for filling in the Vampire Vixen role, this time around for your amazing photos, it's such a relief having an actual proffesional photographer on set.
Ok hope to see most of you again for our next few big shoots.
