Next level escape chapter 3: magic box method

One of the keys to moving escape games to a public settings is by building and utilizing escape boxes. I had a company where we designed many of these escape boxes we called it magic box

Escape boxes are boxes that are locked and that contain the puzzles and tasks that the players will need to solve and you can design these boxes to fit your storyline if you're dealing with a pirate theme your boxes can look like treasure chests maybe you're running a spy game in which case you can simply utilize briefcases with combination locks in many cases you can purchase already ready made boxes or you can create them your self as long as you have a way to attach a lock to them inside each of the boxes can be a puzzle or task maybe there is a riddle or some form of puzzle box that needs to be solved in order to get the combination to the next box. Label your boxes with your company name or the name of the game that is being played i have run public scape games at conventions and public areas like restaurants coffee houses and malls in which case you'll definitely want to notify security about what you're doing so no one thinks you're just leaving suspicious packages every where. A traditional in create boxes inside of boxes i won't take a wooden box with a latch and lock it with a combination lock i will design the box in accordance to the theme of the game and whenever the box is open players will find another box inside but they must also unlock and inside that box is traditionally they will find the clue they need or the puzzle they need to solve, the reason for this is to make it a little more difficult for the general public or passer byers who may want to play from seeing exactly what is inside. I like to create garish and theatrical a spectacle looking boxes to make it clear to the general public that a game is being played and it helps when they see the brand or the logo of the game that is being played.

Next level escape games Chapter 2 no more rooms

Escape games tell a story storytelling in general is a wonderful way to enhance the game traditional escape rooms usually make designers try to conjure up scenarios and stories that require the use of an isolated room by removing the room you can open up your storylines to almost anything you no longer have to just escape out of something especially since many escape rooms are moving away from escaping the room and just accomplishing a task if your mission is to find a treasure or play detective wouldn't that be better suited out in the open?
